Garden & grounds
You are welcome to share in our garden bounty! We plant a huge garden each spring which is our main foodstuff for the summer. Please enjoy what we have to share and feel free to join us when we are out here weeding.
The greenhouse produces some cucumbers, tomatoes, and herbs each growing season. This table is a lovely spot to sit and look out over everything that is growing while sipping on your favorite beverage.
The back deck is a wonderful place to be. Enjoy the propane BBQ, smoke your catch in the smoker, take a relaxing soak in the hot tub and enjoy fresh air dining, all while the soothing sounds of the Kenai rushing by fills your ears.
The mudroom is the first area inside the entrance to our home. This room provides a great area for fish processing, hanging your wet waders, storing your gear, and doing some laundry.
You will find our living room quite cozy and comfortable. There is an extensive library of books, magazines, a few family favorite games, and streaming available on the TV. The sofa in the living room can turn into a bed. The master bedroom door is just behind the sofa. There is also a baker's rack full of pots and pans, a nice side table for tying flies or scrap booking, and our prized Kitchen Queen wood cook stove, also known by our family as "Dante's Inferno" (and not typically needed at all during the summer months).
The master bedroom features a king bed, blackout curtains, and a direct entrance to the bathroom. When the giant lilac is blooming outside the window in June, this room fills with the most beautifully intoxicating aroma when you crack the window. There are two dressers and hooks on the doors for your belongings. The lamps have USB chargers and there is a lovely progressive sunrise alarm clock with nature sounds/white noise machine to awaken you or help you sleep.
upstairs loft bedroom
Winding your way up our hand-built spiral staircase leads you to the upstairs loft bedroom. The loft features a full bed, luggage rack, basket dresser for your belongings, a soothing Himalayan pink salt lamp, ceiling fan, and two end tables. The door leads out to a sitting area with two chaise lounges and end tables. There is a screen on this door also which provides nice ventilation. There is also a gate at the top of the spiral stairs which can be closed for sleepwalkers and kids.
Continuing up the next flight of steps from the loft bedroom leads you into our cozy little reading nook. This is a favorite place to hideout with a great book and a cup of coffee. The light in the summer is always perfect for reading here. The opening window and skylights let in all the tranquil sounds of the birds and the whispers of the Kenai River.
the river room
The River Room is part sitting room, part bedroom, and showcases the glorious Kenai River through many windows. The full futon makes this room very flexible and can be changed quickly for day and nighttime use. The custom curtains and shades provide privacy, creating a separate bedroom space, and do a great job blocking out all that midnight sun! There is also a spotting scope, a piano, and a friendly houseplant or two in this room.
The dining room is located in the heart of our home and is open to the kitchen, living room, and river room. There is seating for six, a beautiful copper ceiling and plenty of pantry space within the hand built cottonwood cabinetry.
Our kitchen is bright and colorful! It features an electric range and oven, dishwasher, commercial coffee pot, coffee grinder, and plenty of pots, pans, utensils and gadgets for your culinary creations. We are working on updating the kitchen this winter, so stay tuned for some new pictures soon.
The bathroom is clean and bright and features a custom slate shower with a clear glass shower door, a small claw foot tub, bronze fixtures, a granite counter top and an on-demand hot water heater. The outside of the shower as well as the tub surround is wrapped in warm cedar. There is also hand build cottonwood cabinetry as well as a medicine cabinet. Fluffy towels included!
